Flying Purple Platypi and other things

Hey, long, long time no post!

I will make no promises as to when I will post again, since my brain seems to be leaking information, either that or I keep deleting files for new ones. I am happy to say that right now I am on spring break from classes and I can catch a little breathe. So far all my best laid plans for my time off have not come to fruition(college word..LOL) for this week, but it has been a good one nonetheless. The kids and I worked on a poem yesterday that I'd like to share, now be prepared it is a bit silly..

Flying Poisonous Purple Platypi

Oh my look in the sky
It is a herd of Flying Poisonous Purple Platypi
I didn't know that they could fly
Watch out, don't let them poop in your eye
You may get a stye

Okay, so it needs some revision, but its a start and I bet you smiled!! I love words, don't you? Poetry is kinda like painting with words, don't you think? Anyway, we had fun working on that together a little before school yesterday.

Last week the kids were out of school for their spring break and it rained and rained and rained some more.. Yucky! Though we did go bowling one of the days and it was fun, even if my old lady hips get thrown out every time I roll, toss, or whatever it is that you do with a bowling ball. The kids loved it and have been wanting to go back to "Glo Bowl", which is where they have black lights on and everything, including the balls glow.. yeah, fun!! Let's see the rest of the week was quite interesting, my darling hubby decided he needed some time away so he went to the hospital for a stress test on his heart... (I say this jokingly of course) At the time it was a scary thing. We are so very thankful for all the prayers, help and concern that many showed to us for those 2 days. We still don't know what is causing his chest pain, but all the tests that they did with his heart came back okay, so we are very thankful for that good news. I know that he is very thankful to be out of the hospital, HE HATED IT THERE!

So... I am off... I am going to do something fun today, that is a promise!! If I find some time to be creative and make something fabulous I will take pictures and post them sometime in the future (notice I didn't say near-future).

Blessings to All!!!

ICE STORM '08 and "I almost made an A.."

Wiped out Willow and Thorn Bush with 1" ice Thorn bush w/ 1" of ice

Okay, I know maybe, just maybe I shouldn't be disappointed with a B+ on an algebra test, but I AM!! Though if you were to transport me back 20 years I would be doing some sort of dance and probably treating myself to chocolate and a week off from studying... BUT I am older now and know I could have done better, especially with the horrindously, stupid mistakes that I made that kept me from an A!!!! OOOOkkkayyy, I am over it and will happily accept my B+ and do better next time, now to go beat the stupid mistakes out of my head!!

Check out these pictures of ICE STORM '08.
My parents arrived Sunday night just in time to enjoy the fun. The children were out of school for 3 days, so they had a 5 day weekend.. yeah for them (I mean me) they returned to school today. Being indoors for 3 straight days with 3 children, 1 teenage boy, 1 pre-teen boy, and 1 9 year old girl that is going on 17...I was going crazy!!! There are not enough computers in this house for that.. Thankfully PaPaw graciously allowed his grandchildren to use his laptop, diminishing some of the drama...Thanks DAD! Oh, I cannot miss saying thanks to my MOM for her wonderful help with the house while I worked on homework and dealt with other pressing issues--napping:o). Thanks MOM!! I love you both and am very thankful you got to enjoy the fun of being iced in with me and the kids!! At least this storm we did not lose power, amazing!!! Last year we were without electricity for 4 days or was it 6 days.. I don't remember but whatever it was it was definitely toooo long to go without heat, hot water, lights, etc.. Never heard my husband squal like he did taking a cold shower in a bathroom that was maybe 32 degrees at best... BUT hey he did it, way tougher than me, thats my "sharkman of the delta"!!:o)
Well, I am babbling and need to get off here and get ready for work. Hope to someday get some pictures of crafty things..soon, very soon!!!
OOHH, HAPPY VALENTINES EVERYONE!!!
Blessings!!

I'm still alive!!!!

Wow, it has been a month since I last posted.. Not doin' so good with being a blogger!!! Sometimes, okay maybe most of the time, I try to do too many things at once... I want to squeeze as much time and fun out of everyday that I can, and that can sometimes cause me to get behind.... Anyway, lets see what have I been up to??? The new year has brought about some amazing changes in the Akers' household... I am officially a freshman in college at the ripe old age of 38(ewww, did I just type that?) It has only taken me 18 years to get back and begin to finish my degree in Art Education and this time I will do it.. It is one of the things on my "bucket list", you know the "what you want to do before you kick the bucket list". NO, I am not having a midlife crisis!!! I am way tooo young for a midlife crisis!! I think that it just really sunk in that this life is short and I don't want to keep looking back saying "I should've, I could've, if only I would've". So I WILL be an art teacher one day, just watch me!! BUT to those of you that have relied on me to meet your hairstyling needs I will be practicing that art for some time to come, believe me! Now, lets see what else.... I haven't been doing much creating lately, but I do have some pictures of things I made over the Christmas holiday that need to be posted. I'll try to get that done this weekend. Other happenings in our world.. tornadoes in January, which fortunately went around us on either side (North and South of us), though many in our area weren't as fortunate:o(. The kids have had 2 school days off so far this month, one day for the tornadoes and the other for ice... CrAzY weather!! Ummm..what else.. Lizzie had her first sleep over for her birthday. Nothing like having three 8 and 9 year old girls giggling and carrying on all night.. I was sooooo tired the next day, but they had soooo much fun!! My boys weren't as appreciative of the commotion:o)!! There is sooooo much that has happened this past month and I know that you don't want to read and read and read, so I will stop here... Just wanted to say hey and also let y'all know I'm alive, just crazy busy and enjoying it!!! I'll try to get those pictures posted and maybe I'll actually post again before another month rolls by. Take care!!

Blessings!
